QUARTET SAN FRANCISCO…THEY
DID IT! This year they got TWO Grammy nominations, one for
“Best Classical Crossover Album” and one for “Best
Engineered Classical Album.” QSF Plays Brubeck,
the CD, which is the first all-Brubeck string quartet recording,
was nominated in the Classical Crossover category and is the group's
third consecutive Best Album nomination. Judy Kirschner at Skywalker
Ranch, Nicasio, CA, recorded the disc. The quartet's previous CDs,
Latigo (2006) and Whirled
Chamber Music (2007), were similarly honored in the
Best Classical Crossover Album category. In addition, Latigo
was nominated for Best Engineered Classical Album (recorded by veteran
engineer Leslie Ann Jones, also at Skywalker Ranch).
"We are so pleased to receive this nomination for our Brubeck
CD," says violinist Jeremy Cohen. "Dave's
music is so joyful and inspiring, and we are so pleased to express
it as string players. This nomination is a great affirmation, and
it encourages us to keep on doing what we're doing."
BAROQUE VIOLINIST MONICA HUGGETT:
Not only was Monica Huggett invited to become head of the first
Early Music department at Juilliard but she also was nominated for
a Grammy for her recording Bach: Orchestral Suites For A
Young Prince.

AMES PIANO QUARTET
A recent review of the Ames Piano Quartet's latest CD release calls
them a "World Class Ensemble," words which come to life
in their recent touring schedule of concerts in South Africa and
Cuba in addition to their continuous schedule of events in America.
Their tour to Cape Town, South Africa with renowned bass-baritone
Simon Estes, included concert venues ranging from Archbishop Desmond
Tutu's cathedral to the poverty-stricken township of Khayelitsha
where the audience was literally dancing in the aisles as they performed!
The students, with whom the quartet both taught and spoke, showed
a deep commitment to music as well as real talent.
